Low-fat Vegan White Gravy



Hearty, thick and filling. Exacly what gravy should be. This is delicious served with "meatballs", burgers, potatoes or what have you. The minuscule amount of fat in this recipe comes from the tofu and plant-based milk, which varies on what brand you use, but it is a very little amount all over especially if you compare it to the traditional version, loaded with margarine, cream, milk, etc.

Ingredients for the white gravy:
  • 150g firm & silken tofu
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3-4 dl unsweetened soy milk
  • 2-3 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1-2 tbsp vegan vegetable broth powder
  • 1-2 tsp dried thyme 

Directions:
  • Lightly brown the onion in a pan while whisking all the other ingredients together in a pot until smooth. 
  • Now simply add the onion into the pot and heat the sauce on medium heat while continually stirring to avoid it to burn on the bottom. Because of the cornstarch it will thicken when heated, so start easy with the soy milk and gradually add more depending on the desired consistency of the gravy. 

If you have lost all hope in finding a healthy, tasty vegan gravy, you really need to try this out. You will not regret it :)
